We would like to know where we might be able to obtain info on non-chemical (prefered) or chemical tests to determine which type of plastic various items from domestic and industrial waste stream are made from. There are many items that do not carry the 1-7 identification mark found on more recent consumer items and the information is required for waste recycling.

There is no easy test to determine with certainty what a polymer is. Fourier Transform Infra Red analysis is the probably the best way but it is costly and time consuming.
