PVC
I make use of extruded rigid PVC tubing for construction work in schools toys etc but now find that it is considered to a non ecological plastic so I need to change it for a hologen free plastic.
Does such a plastic exist that is as rigid and as cheap as rigid PVC -
'Friends of the Earth' say use polylefines but are they right and are they suitable - rigid and of similar price?
Ultrasonic welding - materials selection
We have 2 parts - An injection moulded base tray in Black ABS/PC and a top cover thermoformed in clear PET.
I feel this is a bad combination for ultrasonic welding. So would rather have both parts in a clear material that are more compatible.
NOTE:
The base tray has very thin base section of 0.45mm with thicker walls of 2mm that have the top cover welded to them.
The top cover is 0.175mm in thickness.
The assembled parts must withstand some flexing - similar to the properties of ABS/PC (bayblend)
So my question is this:
What material should we use that has similar properties to ABS/PC, can be ultrasonic welded and is clear?
Please help!

Polyethylene alternatives for inflatable toy products
We are developing a new inflatable product made of PE.
A flat valve is used comprising two flaps with a hole in between where a straw is inserted. This is blown into to inflate the product.
Due to the nature of the valve we find it to awkward and fiddly to use as well as being inconsistent.
Apparently, standard valves(inflatable beach ball or Lilo -type valves) cannot be attached to PE.
Can you suggest any cheap valves (non-return) that are similar to standard valves and that can be used with or attached to PE.
Alternatively, are there any cheap materials similar to PE that can be used for inflatable, promotional toy products (possible disposable as well).
Please help.
Thank you & regards,

PP and its additives
I need to specify the additives to be used with the PP moulding of my new product.
I know that as it is a baby product that it should have an antibacterial agent, plus it needs a filler like talc to give it more strength, and probably an impact modifier as well. What I do not know is the percentages needed.
Just to make things a little easier for you the dimensions are 750mm by 610mm with an overall depth of 100mm, and the thinness is around 2mm, the whole thing is about 2800g in weight.

Permanent set
SHort lengths (approx 75mm) of thin section (less than 1mm) pvc extruded 'tape' (around 5mm wide) has been used in the past to create a flat coiled spring; by wrapping the tape around a mandrel and immersing it in near boiling water for a few minutes. It becomes permanent set in that coiled shape and if stretched open will return to the coiled shape. We need to find an injection mouldable plastic that we can use to produce these flat tape lengths, and then do the same 'permanent setting' operation to. Although pvc may be injection mouldable it appears to have unpleasant side effects. Therefore we need to find a 'nice' alternative ! Thanks
