Help selecting a plastic please
Hi:
I'm looking to select a plastic and my criteria is very simple:
1.- It must be very tough but not brittle.
2.- It must be able to cope with temperatures below minus 50 degrees C without loss in its properties.
3.- The plastic must also lends itself to injection moulding.
The plan is to first machine my prototype from a strip of L600mm x W65mm x H15mm. Then after trials and test, go into production with injection moulding. I have had 30% Glass Filled Nylon suggested but the cost for my strip comes out at £32.00, which leads me to believe that my injection moulded part will be way too expensive. I'm looking at around £2.00, maybe £5.00 per part. Can somebody suggest a cheaper plastic? Given my criteria?
Regards and thanks
Plastic Extruded Pipe.
We are looking for an extruded plastic pipe approx 101.6mm dia x 3.0mm wall. In service the pipe will see 90°C with an internal pressure of 7 Bar.
Could somebody please advise if there is a suitable plastic material and also a potential supplier of the extrusion.
All grades of plastic & Nylons will be considered.
Thanks.
Plastic that can be fabricated with wood working tools.
I am planning the construction of a house boat, and intend to build the interior from scratch. I have equiped myself with a plethora of wood working tools including a bandsaw and router.
Initially I was going to build the shower room from teak. Although this is resistant to water damage it will inevitably absorb some moisture. So I have started to look for alternatives. I do not want to use a prefabricated showed tray, generally they are bland, unattractive and unflexable. I was hoping that you could point me in the direction of material that can be cut with wood working tool, that is durable and asthetically pleasing.
After a brief amount of research I have discoved a material called UHMW. It has been described as a material which can be worked with wood working tooling.
Any Help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Material type alternative
We have a lip type seal used in a ball valve on HM submarines manufactured from Low Density Polethene to BS 3412 Type A class H. The drawing was produced back in 1967 so I suspect that it was selected from BS 3412 1961 (we do not hold a copy).
We have been advised that this material is now obsolete and we are looking for a replacement.
In service it will see air at a pressure of 7bar max and sea water.
Due to the enviromental requirements with the a submarine we need a suitable alternative that is no more toxic in the event of a fire than the original.
A drawing can be supplied if required in PDF format.
Please could you assist in recommending a suitable alternative
LLDPE producers
Hello.
I am looking for a producer of LLDPE in the UK. I have a contact in the US but would like a producer closer to me.
The material i need has to be very thin, around 20 microns, able to be easily heat sealed, be highly reflective and and coloured.
Do you know anywhere in the Uk that could produce these sorts of materials?
Kind regards

Effects of creep
We machine an acetal part that 'creeps' after machining. Does the material reach a stable state post creep? If so is it safe to machine to oversize to allow for shrinkage?
